UK vaccine coverage by age and ethnicity

This project’s objective was to use a data source and visualization posted on MakeoverMonday, and improving its appearance by conveying the same initial message but in a cleaner and more concise manner. The project was done entirely with Tableau.

Data from week 28 of 2021 were used for this project, which illustrate graphs from the article "UK vaccine coverage by race and ethnicity". In the article, individual visualizations were made for each age group.

The initial goal was to group all age groups and ethnicities into a single visualization to make it quick and easy for the viewer to see all data at once, while still keeping it clean and clear. Once this initial goal was achieved, I focused on visualizing smaller but relevant information such as the total vaccination rate, the vaccination rate for each ethnicity up to date (according to the data source), and analysis for the Black population (shown to be the one with the lowest vaccination rate) compared to the known herd immunity threshold.

Viz 1 - covid vaccinations by age and ethnicity

A closer look at the information that the interactive visualization would provide.

viz 2 - black herd immunity threshold

Created a calculated field by using a logical test (IF statement) to show the herd immunity threshold and determine which age group for the Black population was below or above it.

Viz 3 & 4 - vaccination rates

Found the total vaccination rate for each ethnicity, as well as the total UK 50+ vaccination rate by finding the sum of already existing fields and dividing it by the total (found on Excel and reported manually in the calculation tab).
